The Plywood Benders Construction Process

20 years of ramp building experience!

As you can tell from our name, we work exclusively with wood. Wood allows the freedom of portability, interchangeability, and lets us be creative with our designs.

Public or private, indoor or out, we design and build progressive ramp and skatepark layouts that flow smoothly and utilize space efficiently. We build wooden structures that are unique, and no two parks are the same. Custom vert ramps, mini-ramps, bowls and street courses can all be expanded, modified and integrated to suit your needs.

Our estimates include design, materials, labor, and detail work such as custom rails and pipe bending. And we're fully insured, which makes installation virtually worry-free.

Specifications:

We choose our materials based on the project's location, indoor or outdoor; and on the type of client, a private owner or a publicly funded city park.

Indoors: The framing is fir 2x6's and 2x4's, covered with at least two layers of 1/2" CDX plywood. Decks are topped with 3/4" CDX. Coping is 2" diameter steel pipe and riding surface is 1/4" tempered hardboard or a wood/plastic composite such as Ramp Armor or equivalent.

Outdoors: All wood (frame, decks, and subsurface) is pressure-treated for the outdoors. Coping is 2" diameter steel pipe. Riding surface is a wood/plastic composite such as Ramp Armor or equivalent.

While it is cheaper to surface indoor ramps with tempered hardboard, Ramp Armor is an option that adds long-term durability. Outdoors, its waterproof properties make it the only logical choice.

An outdoor public park requires green pressure-treated lumber in order to withhold the abuse of weather and wear.
